Broadband Satellite VoIP Introduced To South America
Computer Business Consultants delivers cost-effective call center solution.

ORLANDO, Florida, November 18, 2003 – When NPI Communications of Guyana needed to grow their international call center operations, they turned to Orlando-based Computer Business Consultants to oversee the expansion.

In just over a year the diversified South American corporation has seen tremendous growth in their call center volume. “They needed to double the number of call stations,” said Clinton Pownall, President of Computer Business Consultants, the company that set up NPI’s telecom system, using an innovative Voice over IP (VoIP) solution.

“The VoIP has worked wonderfully, but NPI has been experiencing costly downtime due to the unreliability of their local phone company. In one instance it took three weeks to restore phone lines that had been cut,” Pownall explained.

In recent years Guyana’s phone system was privatized, which has brought about many improvements, but it is still experiencing growing pains in some areas of the country.

So Pownall and his associates did what they do best. They analyzed the situation, crunched the numbers and drew from their strong experience in IT and telecom to come up with another “outside-the-box” solution they felt would give NPI more control, reliability and increased efficiency. The result was the decision to switch to a satellite provider, the U.S.-based Amnet.

The initial set-up cost was $8,000 but the ongoing operational cost is comparable to that of landlines, with the added reliability of broadband satellite. In fact, even during the recent solar flares and electromagnetic storms, NPI experienced zero downtime with their new satellite connection.

If they need increased bandwidth, they can get it in a matter of minutes. Computer Business Consultants made sure the new system was easy to configure and adjust. And to complete the transition, they provided the telecom equipment and software to expand the center from 60 to 120 stations, with the capacity to grow to more than 200.

As a leading technology company for the region, NPI’s success is helping Guyana to achieve unprecedented economic growth in 2003.
