Problem: No
sound or volume control with Windows ME or error message "RUNDLL32
caused a General Protection Fault in module MMSYSTEM.DLL".
Cause: After installation of an ATI video card, specifically the Xpert 128, & the All-In-Wonder 128 Pro, the PC experiences a loss of sound and the volume control could not be executed nor would it appear on the task bar as before. During the installation of ATI driver the "drivers=mmsystem.dll" (without the quotes) under the [boot] section of the c:\windows\system.ini file was inadvertently removed.
The Choosing: "Display Properties --> Settings --> Advanced can also cause the error message "RUNDLL32 caused a General Protection Fault in module MMSYSTEM.DLL".
Solution:
Add the "drivers=mmsystem.dll" (without the quotes) under the [boot] section of the c:\windows\system.ini and reboot.
