Problem: How do I Renew and Activate a Norton Anti-Virus Virus Definition Subscription?

Solution:

When you run LiveUpdate, you see one of the following screens. Please follow the directions for the corresponding screen.

If you do not see one of these screens, you either have not yet expired or you may need to run LiveUpdate once without subscribing to see the reminder screens. Run LiveUpdate without subscribing, return to LiveUpdate again to see if you are prompted to subscribe.

NOTE: You do not need to subscribe to update the program files. The program file updates alone will not provide you with current virus definitions, which will protect you from any newly discovered viruses. To continue receiving virus definitions, you may subscribe following the directions below.

If you see the screen below, go to the section titled LiveSubscribe Directions:

LiveSubscribe Directions:
Click Next. This will launch your internet connection and web browser.

Follow the online directions to place your update subscription order. When the order has successfully completed, you will see the order confirmation page below.

As prompted close your browser and return to LiveUpdate. Symantec will email you a confirmation email for your receipt. The screen below will appear. Select Order confirmation page appeared in the Web browser and click Next to run LiveUpdate and obtain your virus definitions.

LiveUpdate Directions:
To receive a new annual subscription for virus definitions, follow these steps:

The dialog box "Virus definitions update reminder" appears.
Click "Yes, tell me how." The following screen appears:

If you have a confirmation number, then click Next.

If you do not have a confirmation number, then follow these steps to purchase the subscription:

Click the following Web address to purchase an annual subscription online: http://www.symantec.com/purchase/
Click "Renew Virus Update Subscription," for the update subscription order form and follow the directions. The address must be your credit card billing address and your email address needs to be entered twice.

For Norton AntiVirus 2001, Norton AntiVirus 2000, Norton SystemWorks 2000, and Norton SystemWorks 2001:
Symantec will provide an 11-digit alpha-numeric code and instructions for how to use it in a confirmation email message. Please write down the code. All letters must be upper-case (the confirmation number is case sensitive). Return to the LiveUpdate screen, and then click Next.

For Norton AntiVirus 4.0, Norton AntiVirus 5.0, and Norton SystemWorks 1.0, 1.1, 2.0:
Symantec will provide an 9-digit numeric code and instructions for how to use it in a confirmation email message. Please write down the code. Return to the LiveUpdate screen, and then click Next.

You will then see the following screen. Click "My Subscription number is:" and type your subscription number in the text box and click Next.

The following confirmation screen will appear after you have successfully submitted your confirmation number. Click Finish to run LiveUpdate and obtain your virus definitions.
